I can remove a short section of plaster molding and get an exact replacement of your style plaster fabricated . From the sample section that I take down, a "knife" is made to cut that
shape into a composition board. It works along the idea of how a router works. Hopefully that makes enough sense as
not to have to go into a lot of detail. Some intricate moldings make need 2 knives made. The milling company keeps the blade and the rights to sell that style molding to anybody who
wants to buy any. So there is always the possibility that your
molding may have already been fabricated and you will not have to pay the knife set up charge. You pay the setup charge
as deemed necessary, the actual fabricated molding has a cost per foot and then anytime thereafter you can always purchase more .... lets say if there are other rooms in your house that use that same style molding contour.
Now let's get to some pictures to prove the value of such an endeavour.
and one day when I get time, I'll spell check

This is the molding in place with the props that held it perfectly in place already removed. A good strong constuction adhesive was used to keep the newly fabricated molding in place.
Continuing around the perimeter of the room, you see that a lot of changes need to occur, not only in the molding but the walls and ceiling as well.
Keep in mind that this is a 9 1/2 foot ceiling height so I have scaffolding running all around the room so that I can expediate daily coats of plaster fill as needed. The biggest issue in this room that is not too noticable in pictures is the fact that sand paint was all over the molding. It was easier to recoat the entire room of molding than to try to sand off the sand paint.
As we continue further around the room, here is another section that needed to be replaced. Somewhere along the lines of time it must have gotten loose by water damage or house settling ... whatever happened it was missing long before I got there.
By the way ... I took off all of the wood moldings around the doors and windows, stripped off, ground off and resanded the wood before rehanging them and later, as you will see, I stained all of the woodwork.
The doors in the room and the window sashes were all dipped and stripped as well. I
do have an excellent means of stripping so please keep me in mind for all of your restoration needs. Another point of information is that I also changed out all of the window weight ropes and pulleys for new one's. Ropes were replaced with chain. Some window pulls and locks were purchases through a restoration hardware supply
company as well. There are multitudes of restoration supplies available on line.
Other pages listed under "my work" that pertain to this room are the wainscott work
as well as the fireplace. I have yet to decide where I will place the finished room pics.
They can be seen at the dining room fireplace page.
