Suited up and resperators on the old insulation was bagged and carted out.  The entire attic was Hepa vaccuumed before the blocking was added.

High Hats are all sealed units and 1 1/2" styrofoam blocking was glued in place with spray insulation.

Cautiously crawling around and doing the blocking took quite a whle.  The house is a ranch with a 32 foot span by some 50 feet long.

The entire attic was sealed with spray foam at all electrical boxes and at all piping chases.  Every bay was plastic lined.

The plastic is an air barrier.  Space is left at the blocking to allow air flow above the insulation.

No insulation will be needed within the high hat boxed in areas.

And in goes the R 19 insulation.

The insulation is totally encapsulated, which makes for an itch free install !!!

An area that had deeper bays got R 30 insulation.

Temerature controlled fans were installed at both ends of the 50 foot run with a 900 cfm each.

The staircase was fully insulated.

As you can see, I do mean fully insulated.

Finally a removable door with a summer screen to keep the cat from getting up anywhere near the fans and a

winter panel to keep cold from getting into the downstairs living area as well as the switch panel for the closet light, attic lighting and a safety shut off for the attic fans and the job is complete a month later.
